This CEFR cycle presents an authentic action-oriented task that allows students to understand and explain the meaning of Orange Shirt Day in a real school context.
Through a structured progression (oral → reading → interaction → production), students develop their listening and speaking skills while building their understanding of an important historical and cultural topic.
The cycle includes:
- a listening activity based on a video with three guided viewings
- an adapted A1-level reading text with a comprehension questionnaire
- model dialogues to support oral interaction
- a collaborative discussion inspired by the Building Thinking Classrooms model
- a final task where students create a message (poster or oral presentation) for a real audience within the school
This resource aligns with the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) and incorporates oral-first and scaffolded strategies to support language development, including the use of modelled language, repetition, and structured interaction.
Students act as social agents by using French to inform and raise awareness within their school community.
This cycle can be adapted to meet the needs of different learners and classroom contexts.
